Because That's the Way We've Always Done It!: Lesson learned from case studies on effective new employee on-boarding

Presenter: Jay Naumann, Manager of Corporate Training, RC Willey.
March 26 2010, 12:00-1:00 p.m. (arrive early for networking @ 11:45)

Management expectations and regulatory requirements often shape the structure and method of New Hire Orientation within an organization. By default, habit, or shear laziness we sequester our New Hires into training rooms where skilled and dedicated instructors force feed mind numbing information in marathon “learning” sessions.  Learn how two Utah companies broke this mindless cycle by asking the right questions and having the courage to act on the answers.

Jay Naumann has over twenty-five years of experience in training and development.  He is currently the Manager of Corporate Training for RC Willey Home Furnishings.  Previously, Jay worked as a Training Coordinator / Internal Quality Auditor for Autoliv in Brigham City. At Autoliv Jay helped implement the use of Lean Manufacturing Techniques and Six Sigma throughout the facility. The Autoliv BC Plant has been awarded the distinguished Shingo Prize for Lean Manufacturing twice.  Prior to Autoliv, Jay was an American Sign Language instructor for Utah State University. Jay is an active member of the Utah chapters of ISPI and ASTD. Jay will be presenting at the 2010 ASTD International Conference in Chicago. He enjoys coaching soccer, amateur astronomy and any activity that involves his wife and four children – especially travel.
